SK015 CHAPTER 7.3: Solubility Product

Question 1

A solution contains 0.175 M manganese(II) ions and 0.182 M lead(II) ions. The Ksp for manganese(II) sulphide is 1.4 x 10-15and for lead(II) sulphide is 8.0 x 10-28. Write the solubility product expression for both sulphides. Calculate the maximum concentration of sulphide ions present in the solution without manganese ions being precipitated. [7 marks]

Question 2

Calculate the solubility of magnesium phosphate, Mg3(PO4)2, in g L-1.

[Ksp Mg3(PO4)2=5.2x10-24, Mg3(PO4)2=262gmol-1]
